2016 Souzão, Sierra Foothills
Souzão has long been a favorite of hot weather climates, and is an important grape in both dry and fortified wines.
34 months in 25% new French and American oak
Whole berry fermentation
Tart blueberry and black currant fruit, sweet pipe tobacco, and spicy licorice are balanced against soft notes of smoke and earthy rhubarb.
Food Pairing Notes
The 2014 Souzão is complex, multilayered, and a versatile food partner. Its smooth tannins handle heat well. In Portugal, Cataplana is the name of both of the long-simmered spicy pork stew with tomatoes, chili pepper, paprika and clams, and the traditional covered pot in which it’s cooked. It’s a great example of simpático regional food and wine.
