Our Story

Our Vineyard and Winery Venture has come together, after much search and research, including many Tasting Trips to Napa Valley, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Temecula, the Yakima Valley and Walla Walla of Washington State, many local wineries, the Champagne Region of France, Tuscany, San Gimignano, and more.

 

Robert W Young, MD, driving force behind the passion, subsequently completed a

Viticulture and Winemaking course through The Atlanta Wine School, in time pursuing  his Winemaker Certificate from UC Davis, a rigorous yet immensely rewarding learning experience.  He has now completed his final course, excelling throughout, we are happy to share. UC Davis continues to rank as a prominent leader in winemaking advancements through its Department of Viticulture and Enology, the University’s center for the scientific study of grape growing and winemaking. We are proud to display this significant certificate of achievement for Bob personally and for Bending Branch.

 

Integral to the development of Bending Branch also is John Rivenburgh.  John, a native of  San Antonio, husband of our daughter Alison, has great grower knowledge, along with a host of other skills, perfectly interfacing vineyard and winery operations.  Few come more qualified. 

 

As Vice President of Operations, John has returned to academia as well, enrolling in Texas Tech’s highly respected professional Viticulture management program.  He thoroughly enjoys the learning and networking and plans to be a member of the program’s second graduating class. John  and Bob are both members of The American Society for Enology and Viticulture.

 

With John and Alison having a shared commitment to our cause, making it GREEN and Sustainable as well, we have arrived here, precious grandchildren Jackson and Chloe too, at 142 Lindner Branch Trail, Comfort, Texas. 

 

This Texas Hill Country destination replaces our home in suburban Atlanta and Bob’s Atlanta based regional medical practice with this exciting Winemaking Journey.
